Opening a new Inventory window is slow

Open a new Inventory window takes several seconds, depending on computer speed and how many inventory items you have. During this time, the viewer appears completely frozen.
It would be nice to investigate the cause of the slowness, and make it faster. Or, if that's not possible, restructure the code and/or use threading so that it doesn't completely freeze the viewer while it's doing it.
