Dead stream urls can freeze the viewer
Reported by McCabe Maxsted | February 16th, 2009 @ 12:13 PM | in 1.1.0
http://193.239.120.188:8406/ is a particularly obvious offender.
Attempting to cross into a region that uses this stream freezes Imprudence bad.

Looks like certain webpages can cause the same lockup too:

Another repro:
- Start playing a working stream.
- With the play button enabled, change the stream to a dead URL.
- Observe: viewer freezes while it tries to figure out WTF's going on.
Putting GStreamer in its own thread is the answer for this. In the meantime, using curl to verify stream urls should be an acceptable workaround for the worst freezes. I'll throw in a message like "The stream you're trying to play is either dead or taking too long to respond."
